What is Aerodrome Swap API?

Aerodrome Finance is a dominant AMM on Base controlling over 40% of the network's liquidity. Traditional DEX integrations suffer from gas estimation failures requiring hardcoded limits up to 30 million units, MEV extraction costing users over $670 million, liquidity fragmentation across pools, and complex integration needing multiple SDKs. Aerodrome Swap API eliminates this complexity with simple REST calls. Developers can install it through QuickNode's marketplace on their Base RPC endpoint and immediately access pool analytics, swap quotes, and transaction routing without additional SDKs or complex configurations.

How Does Aerodrome Work?

Aerodrome operates on a vote-escrowed (VE) tokenomics model, creating a self-sustaining liquidity flywheel. Users lock AERO tokens and receive veAERO NFTs, with voting power determined linearly by lock duration. For example, 100 AERO locked for 4 years yields 100 veAERO (100% voting power), while 1 year yields 25 veAERO (25% voting power). Each week during a 7-day epoch, veAERO holders vote to direct new AERO emissions to specific liquidity pools while earning 100% of all protocol trading fees (over $1 million weekly). This creates a powerful flywheel: traders pay fees for deep liquidity, fees flow to veAERO voters, voters direct emissions to pools, liquidity providers earn sustainable yields and provide more liquidity, deeper liquidity attracts more traders with better prices, generating more volume and fees. This mechanism has driven Aerodrome to $1.29 billion in TVL, $25 billion in annualized trading volume, and 180,000+ monthly active users in just 18 months.

Aerodrome Swap API Set Up

1. Install the Aerodrome Swap API

   • If you already have a Base endpoint:
     • Navigate to the "Add-ons" section.
     • Open the installation modal and select the plan based on your desired rate limit.
     • Click "Install".
   • If you do not have a Base endpoint:
     • Click on "Create Endpoint".
     • Select "Base" and click "Continue".
     • Choose "Mainnet".
     • On the next screen, install the add-ons you wish to use, including the Aerodrome Swap API.

2. Verify Installation

   • After installation, find the add-on under the "Installed Add-ons" section.
   • Click on "Getting Started" to view basic commands available for your add-on.

3. Get Pools

   • Use the following method to get pools on Aerodrome:

     GET /v1/pools?target=aero&limit=10&offset=0&token=token_address
   • This command will return all the available pools for a specified token.

4. Get Quote

   • To obtain the code for a swap, use the following endpoint:

     GET /v1/quote?target=base&from_token=token_address&to_token=token_address&amount=1
   • This coomand will return a quote to swap a specific pair of tokens.

5. Format the Output

   • Ensure your output is in JSON format for better readability. The response will include details such as:
     • Amount to be swapped
     • Minimum expected amount
     • Price and token addresses
