Hemi Overview

Hemi is a modular Layer-2 protocol that integrates Bitcoin and Ethereum as unified components of a supernetwork. Rather than treating these blockchains as isolated ecosystems, Hemi embeds Bitcoin awareness directly into an Ethereum Virtual Machine, enabling developers to build applications that leverage both blockchains simultaneously. The platform uses Proof-of-Proof consensus to anchor transactions to Bitcoin's security model while maintaining Ethereum's execution layer familiarity.

Hemi provides two core technical components: the Hemi Virtual Machine (hVM) combines a full Bitcoin node within an EVM environment, and the Hemi Bitcoin Kit (hBK) grants smart contracts granular access to Bitcoin state. This architecture enables Bitcoin DeFi applications previously impractical through standard EVM implementations. As a fully EVM-compatible platform, Hemi allows developers to use standard Ethereum tooling like Hardhat, Foundry, and Web3 libraries while accessing cross-chain functionality through its Tunnels feature for trustless asset transfers.

Interacting with Hemi's APIs

Hemi supports standard Ethereum JSON-RPC methods along with Debug APIs and OP-Node JSON-RPC API extensions, enabling developers to use Ethereum's native tools without modification. The platform maintains full compatibility with Solidity and existing Ethereum development workflows.
