CryptoCities is a decentralized strategy game built on the Ethereum blockchain that tokenizes real-world towns, villages, and cities as unique non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Players explore and discover these locations over time, each with distinct fictional features that influence gameplay and strategic development. The game incorporates territory conquest mechanics where players wage battles to capture and control land around their cities, expanding their empires and increasing their power. The design ensures that smaller locations remain competitive, allowing new players to participate meaningfully despite the presence of larger cities.

Originally launched in 2018, CryptoCities was an early adopter of NFTs, storing geographic coordinates on-chain and minting some of the earliest NFTs. While the project has since moved away from storing metadata directly on-chain, it preserves legacy tokens by wrapping original NFTs into upgraded ERC-721 contracts, maintaining ownership continuity. The game integrates with MetaMask for wallet management and transaction signing, enabling players to trade locations and receive marketplace earnings directly to their wallets without CryptoCities holding funds.

CryptoCities stands out by combining real-world geography with blockchain gaming, offering a persistent, evolving world where strategic empire-building is tied to NFT ownership. Its battle fatigue mechanic adds depth by requiring players to manage rest periods to maintain combat effectiveness. The capped supply of 25,000 NFTs ensures scarcity and long-term value.
