Hedera RPC
Hedera Overview
Hedera is a public distributed ledger that uses hashgraph consensus instead of traditional blockchain architecture. Rather than organizing transactions into sequential blocks, hashgraph employs a directed acyclic graph (DAG) structure with asynchronous Byzantine Fault Tolerance (aBFT). The network offers native services including the Hedera Token Service (HTS) for token creation, Hedera Consensus Service (HCS) for message ordering, Smart Contract Service for EVM compatibility, and File Service for decentralized storage.
Hedera provides dual execution environments for developers. The JSON-RPC Relay enables EVM compatibility with standard Ethereum tooling like Web3.js, Ethers, Hardhat, and Foundry, while native Hedera services can be accessed through official SDKs. Smart contracts can integrate with native services like HTS through system contracts, allowing hybrid applications that combine EVM functionality with Hedera specific capabilities.
Interacting with Hedera's APIs
Hedera provides multiple API options for developers. The JSON-RPC Relay enables EVM compatibility for developers using standard Ethereum tools like Ethers.js, Viem, Hardhat, and Foundry. The Mirror Node REST API provides access to historical data, account information, and transaction queries. Native Hedera services can be accessed through official SDKs.
The Quicknode Hedera documentation is continuously evolving as the network undergoes upgrades and changes, so we highly recommend cross-referencing with the official Hedera documentation for the latest updates and features.
Make Hedera API Calls
The quickest way to start building on Hedera is to create a Quicknode endpoint and send your first API request.
Quicknode provides managed Hedera endpoints, giving you immediate access to Hedera Mainnet and Testnet without the overhead of running infrastructure. These endpoints offer:
- High reliability – globally distributed infrastructure designed to minimize downtime
- Enhanced performance – optimized latency and request handling for production-grade apps
- Integrated ecosystem – additional functionality through specialized APIs (add-ons) on the Quicknode Marketplace and products like Streams
Visit the QuickStart page to create your endpoint and send your first request.
