Overview
Starting December 2, 2025, Quicknode will begin applying sales tax to customer accounts where required by state law. Sales tax is determined based on your billing address.
This page covers how sales tax is calculated, when it will appear on your invoices, what to expect during the rollout, and how tax-exempt organizations can request exemption.
Sales Tax Effective Dates
State and Local Tax Rates
As Quicknode meets tax thresholds in additional states, those states will be added automatically. Updates will be posted to this page, and affected customers will see changes directly on their invoices.
How Sales Tax is Applied
Sales tax is determined based on your billing address in the Quicknode Dashboard and is calculated automatically using the most current tax rates for your location.
Tax Calculation Rules
- Taxable jurisdictions: Sales tax automatically applies if your billing address is in a state listed above.
- Non-taxable jurisdictions: No sales tax is applied if your billing address is in a state not currently subject to tax collection.
- Missing/invalid addresses: Customers without a complete billing address may be subject to default tax rates (see table above for specific rates by state).
- Rate determination: Tax rates include state, county, and local taxes as applicable to your specific address.
Ensure your billing information is accurate by visiting your Quicknode Dashboard → Profile icon → Profile → Primary address.
What to Expect on Your Invoices
Once sales tax collection is active for your account, invoices will include a dedicated Sales Tax line item showing the tax amount and applicable rate.
Sample Invoice
The sales tax line item includes the applicable tax rate for transparency. Rates vary by location and may include state, county, and local taxes.
Tax-Exempt Organizations
Certain qualifying organizations may be exempt from sales tax on Quicknode services. Tax-exempt status must be verified with proper documentation before exemption can be applied.
Qualifying Organizations
The following organization types typically qualify for sales tax exemption:
- 501(c)(3) charitable organizations - Non-profit charities, educational institutions, and foundations
- Religious institutions - Churches, synagogues, mosques, and other religious organizations
- Government agencies - Federal, state, county, and municipal government entities
- Educational institutions - Schools, universities, libraries, and research organizations
- Scientific/research organizations - Non-profit research institutions and scientific societies
Note: Tax exemption rules vary by state. Your organization must be tax-exempt in the state where your billing address is located.
How to Request an Exemption
- Obtain a valid state-issued tax-exempt certificate (ensure it's current).
- Send the documentation to billing@quicknode.com with the subject line "Tax Exemption Request".
- Once verified, your account will be marked as tax-exempt, and future invoices will not include sales tax.
Refunds for Previously Charged Tax
Tax-exempt organizations and customers with billing address errors may be eligible for refunds under specific conditions:
For tax-exempt organizations: You must first complete the tax exemption verification process above before requesting a refund. Include the date range and invoice numbers for consideration.
For incorrect billing addresses: If you were taxed due to an incorrect billing address (e.g., listed in NY but located in FL), update your address immediately in the dashboard. You may request a refund within 90 days of the charge after correction.
