The Base Bridge is the official canonical bridge that enables users to transfer assets between Ethereum and Base, which is built using the Optimism OP Stack optimistic rollup framework. When users bridge assets such as ETH or ERC-20 tokens from Ethereum to Base, the tokens are locked on Ethereum and minted on Base, allowing fast deposits typically completed within minutes. For withdrawals from Base back to Ethereum, tokens are burned on Base and unlocked on Ethereum after a standard ~7-day challenge period, which is part of the optimistic rollup security model. This design ensures the bridge remains non-custodial and trust-minimized while inheriting Ethereum’s security guarantees, making it the primary and most secure route for moving assets into and out of the Base ecosystem.
