Quick Fact
Farcaster blends Web3 principles with a familiar social experience, allowing users to own their identity and data while developers build composable apps on an open protocol.
Farcaster is a sufficiently decentralized social network protocol that prioritizes user sovereignty and composability. It enables users to register unique Ethereum-linked usernames (called Farcaster IDs), publish messages (called casts), and build social graphs that are portable across applications. Identity is managed on-chain while content is stored off-chain but signed and verifiable.
Farcaster is designed for builders. Any developer can create an app on top of the protocol, leveraging its open APIs and standards. The flagship app, Warpcast, demonstrates Twitter-like functionality, but other apps—from niche communities to clients with alternative UX—can tap into the same network. The protocol includes hubs for storing and broadcasting messages and registry contracts on Ethereum for managing usernames.
