Quick Fact
Orchid introduced a unique probabilistic nanopayments system, enabling scalable, pay-as-you-go private internet access without subscriptions or middlemen.
Orchid is a decentralized virtual private network (dVPN) protocol that operates as an open marketplace for bandwidth. Instead of relying on centralized servers, Orchid connects users to a distributed network of independent providers who sell secure internet access directly. Payments are made using OXT, Orchid’s native cryptocurrency, on a per-packet basis.
Orchid’s pay-as-you-go model uses a system called probabilistic nanopayments, allowing users to only pay for the bandwidth they consume. This structure eliminates the need for subscriptions, offering flexibility and true cost-efficiency for VPN usage. Users can choose from multiple providers and routes to customize their privacy experience.
Built on Ethereum, Orchid is open-source and non-custodial. It does not log any user data and uses multi-hop configurations to strengthen privacy. Orchid is accessible via its mobile and desktop apps and includes integrations for advanced privacy tools and decentralized identity solutions.
