Overview
MetaMask Agent Wallet is a self-custodial wallet built for AI agents. Developers install the mm CLI (npm @metamask/agent-wallet) and add MetaMask's agent skills or plugins to their agent framework, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok Build, and OpenClaw. The agent then operates the wallet from plain-language prompts and receives structured JSON output that any LLM can parse.
Agents can check balances and transaction history, send native tokens and ERC-20s, sign messages and typed data, and decode unfamiliar calldata before signing. They can also swap and bridge across supported EVM chains, trade perpetuals on Hyperliquid, trade prediction markets on Polymarket, supply to and withdraw from yield vaults including Aave, and pay HTTP 402 paywalled APIs using x402.
Users stay in control. In Guard Mode they set daily spend limits and allowlisted protocols, and any action outside that policy requires approval by email or MetaMask mobile push notification. Beast Mode allows any protocol while still blocking transactions flagged as malicious. Supported transactions go through transaction simulation, Blockaid threat scanning on supported networks, and Smart Transactions with MEV protection before they land onchain. Users keep their keys and can export them at any time, and developers can bring their own keys.
